Description

These A.M. Møbler Model 501 chairs are  quintessential examples of Danish Mid-Century Modern design, produced during the 1960s by Ansager Møbler, a respected Danish manufacturer founded in 1922. The Model 501 embodies the core principles of Scandinavian modernism—honest materials, clean lines, and functional beauty—and has become highly sought after by collectors.

These chairs are constructed from solid teak, a premium hardwood prized for its rich, warm color and natural durability. The defining visual feature of the Model 501 is the distinctive sculptural spade-shaped backrest, which provides both ergonomic support and understated elegance. The seat is hand-woven using traditional Danish papercord, often in a stylish checkerboard pattern, a material valued for its flexibility and durability that develops a beautiful patina over decades of use.

The Model 501 chairs are highly sought after by collectors of vintage Danish furniture, with their value driven by condition, originality, and the size of the set. The combination of the sculptural teak backrest and the hand-woven papercord seat makes the A.M. Møbler Model 501 a stunning representation of the honest, refined, and deeply human scale that defines classic Mid-Century Modern design.

Condition Report

This set of A.M. Møbler Model 501 vintage 1960s Danish teak and cord dining chairs is in good original condition. The solid teak frames are sound with no loose corner blocks, silvering, or leg repairs, and all chairs have no wobble. The original herringbone paper cord remains tight and intact across all but one chair; on a single seat, some cords have detached at the front edge. This does not affect usability or structural stability, and the remaining cords continue to support weight without sagging. Original paper labels or Danish Control stamps are present. The chairs have been stored in a smoke-free environment with no musty odours.
