Description

This Ib Køfod-Larsen sideboard is a standout example of Scandinavian modern design produced in collaboration with the renowned Danish architect and designer Ib Køfod-Larsen in the 1960s. A collaboration that brought Køfod-Larsen's signature minimalist, Scandinavian aesthetic to the British market.

The 4060 sideboard is defined by several distinctive design touches. This includes a fine shadow gap that runs around the perimeter of the piece, creating a floating effect for the top, as well as sculptured, tapered legs and a matching front stretcher . The handles are typically square blocks of solid wood. The storage configuration is exceptionally practical; a period brochure describes one model's "fantastic storage capacity" which included space for 25 bottles, a removable drinks tray, a fitted cutlery drawer, and two linen drawers .

The attention to detail extended to the interiors, which were lined in fine felt, and drawers that feature dovetail joints are stamped with the G-Plan Danish Design mark and Køfod-Larsen's signature .

The Køfod-Larsen sideboards for G-Plan are considered highly rare and sought after by collectors of mid-century furniture . They represent a successful fusion of British manufacturing with authentic Danish design philosophy. Their value is driven by their excellent condition, the desirability of rosewood over teak, and the specific model and size. They appear regularly at major auction houses and specialist vintage retailers, with prices varying based on condition and provenance
